5 Random Thursday Thoughts

1.  I know a lot of people won't understand this, but I actually miss shopping for baby boy clothes.  Girl clothes are SO fun obviously, but I also really loved shopping for a baby boy.  Kids' clothes are kind of a hobby of mine (and my mom's) and I miss the challenge of finding cute baby boy clothes.  The girl clothes are just so available.  Reid is starting to transition into more of a big boy wardrobe instead of a baby/toddler wardrobe.  I really don't like it!  I like for my babies to look like babies and not mini adults.  That's totally just my own personal preference.  I'm having a hard time seeing him in bluejeans and khaki pants and polos.  I am still planning to squeeze in some John-Johns this summer, but the transition has started.  The thing about boys is that they will wear the same type of clothes from the age of 4 until 84.  There's not a lot of variety.  I like to enjoy dressing him and having fun with it while I can.  Who knows… maybe I will get to dress another baby boy someday! :)

2.  Over the last couple of weeks I have run into a few of my former students that are now in HIGH SCHOOL.  One was my checker at Target.  They are still little 7 year olds in my mind.  While this does make me feel old, more than anything, it makes me sad because time FLIES.  My baby boy is going to be 3 in a couple of months and I cannot believe it.  I blinked and the sweet girl whose shoes I used to help tie is now working at Target saving up for her first car, just like I blinked and my firstborn is now wearing polos. :(

3.  I feel that it is safe to say that we have already successfully brainwashed our son at the age of almost three.  He critiqued my "whoop" the other day (after singing the war hymn of course).  I believe his exact words were, "No Mommy!  You do it like this!" (as he showed me a whoop that would rival that of a yell leader).

4.  This is really pathetic, but I was thinking the other day how I am going to count my 18 trips up and down the stairs in the middle of the night as exercise because it's twice as much work to walk up stairs when you are half asleep. :)

5.  Georgia Kate's nursery is pretty much the same as Reid's was, but I have finally added a few things to make it more specific to her!  The items I added are in ballet pink/peachy pink tones.

The colors look a little off in these pictures and everything looks crooked because I didn't pay attention when I was taking the pictures…

I love this beautiful canvas from oopsydaisy.com!  Of course Georgia Kate can do whatever her heart desires when she gets older, but I sure would love it if she chose dance! :) I think this is something that can transition to her big girl room someday.  

 This monogram is actually painted "ballet pink", but the color looks weird in this picture.  The teddy bear was made from my grandmother's mink coat.  Reid has one too.

 I thought this print was so cute and the color scheme matched well!  Our Georgia Peach needed it in her room! 

 

 This is all from Reid's nursery.  I shouldn't call it Reid's nursery though.  When I designed this room before he was born, I did so with all of our babies in mind. :)  

Of course we had to add a bow holder in her bathroom!  This is actually about half of her bows.  The rest are in a bag in the cabinet.  I will need to get or make another one soon!

 The sign that was on our front door when we came home from the hospital now hangs on her nursery door!

Do you see the curl on the top of her head?!  I am SO excited about this!

Katy Rodeo!

Last night Chris and I took our little cowboy to the Katy rodeo!  It's such a great small town feel event. Katy isn't exactly "small town" anymore, but the rodeo makes it feel that way and I got warm fuzzies inside while the announcer prayed at the beginning (with sweet guitar strumming in the background). :)

Boots!

This was what Reid looked like the entire time.  He was SO focused and really taking it all in.  This is very typical Reid.  He did not want to participate in the adorable stick horse race because there were too many people, but I hope he does next year!  It's darling!

I loved my cuddle time with my boy!  (I am wearing Chris' coat.)

Reid kept looking up at me (probably 25 different times) and said, "I havin' fun?"  He said it like a question, which was so funny!  At one point he said, "I havin' fun with Mommy and Daddy tonight!" I love him so very much.  

Georgia Kate is 7 months old!

7 months is a big one for me as a mommy!  My sweet baby girl is closer to a one year old than a newborn.  She is such a joy and we are so thankful for her!

Georgia Kate has found a new love for the outdoors this month!  We've been spending a lot of time outside the last couple of weeks and she is so happy out there!  She loves to sit on her blanket with toys and loves to swing.  She has started to be very interested in books.  Yay!  If there are toys and books around her on the floor, she almost always picks up the book.  I love seeing her sweet, chubby, little hands holding onto a book!  One of my favorite things that she does is hold her arms out and squeeze her hands open and shut when she gets excited.  She has started blowing bubbles and thinks it's so funny.  I love seeing her silly side coming out!  Something new this month is that she gets very angry when we take something away that she has or wants.  The face she makes is so pitiful!  Reid is still her favorite person in our family.  She really just adores him.  I love the way she looks at him.  

Things haven't changed much in the sleep department.  She goes to sleep pretty easily.  It's the staying asleep part that we have yet to master.  She is still waking up every 2-3 hours most nights, but sometimes she will give us a longer stretch!  I try not to feed her every time, but sometimes it's the only thing that will calm her down. :/ We had a couple of really rough weeks after we took the swaddle away, but that has gotten so much better.  She has found her favorite sleeping position, which is on her side.  I think we are moving towards two main naps (a morning and an afternoon) with a mini nap in the evening.  We've had a few days like that and it worked out well, but some days she still needs 4.  It really depends on the length of the naps.  Thankfully she's pretty flexible…second child, bless her heart.  

I feed Georgia Kate every 3-4 hours during the day (which ends up being 4-5 times) and she gets solids at dinner and sometimes at lunch.  I feel like maybe we started solids a little bit too early with her.  Her little tummy has had a lot of issues since starting food.  We have done "finger foods" just a few times, more as an activity/entertainment than anything.  She's had frozen peas (they are tiny, feel good on her gums, and are fun to play with) and puffs a couple of times.  She doesn't have teeth yet, but I'm thinking they must be coming soon!  Our growing girl is wearing 9-12 month clothes and size 3 diapers.  I love dressing her every day.  She's my own real life baby doll!  Georgia's hair seems to still be on the darker side and I am really starting to see some curl!  I assumed I would have another blondie, but when I used to picture a daughter, she always had curly dark hair and blue eyes! :)

Georgia Kate's First Zoo Trip

This morning we went to the zoo with some sweet friends!  I feel like a child's first zoo trip is something that needs to be documented. :) 

It is also important to document what Georgia Kate wore to her first zoo trip.

                                        

Reid's expression tells the story of what our morning/drive to the zoo was like.  Overall, today was just not my best "mom day".  I know we all have them.  They aren't fun, but we powered through. 

                                         

We lucked out because there was not just one, but TWO brand new baby animals at the zoo!  The baby giraffe and baby elephant were ridiculously adorable!

Overall, I don't think Georgia Kate was very impressed with the zoo.  She ended up sleeping in the Ergo for the second half of our visit.

I am hoping we can make more zoo trips this spring while the weather is nice!

Official 6 Month Photos

Earlier this month we had Georgia Kate's 6 month pictures taken by the amazing Aubrey Torrey.  I am in love with every single one, but since it might be a little excessive to share 158 photos in one blog post, I tried to narrow it down to my favorites. :)

I laugh every time I look at this one… that FACE!

We had 6 month photos done for Reid as well, but I didn't buy the cd from the photographer until recently.  I wanted to be sure they were on the blog too!  It's hard to believe my big boy was this little at one time!  His expressions in these pictures are the exact expressions he makes now.
