teeth, snowman, and stats

Just a couple of days after Reid turned 6 months old we finally noticed not one, but TWO little teeth popping through! This is a strange picture, but there they are! Two little pearly whites! :) On Monday I took Reid up to Mumsie's school for a surprise visit! I thought he looked adorable in his little smocked snowman outfit. Well, a parent that was in the front office thought Reid was a girl! The NERVE! :) He was wearing all blue for crying out loud! I realize that every mom can dress her baby how she wants to, but it is important to me that my baby boy looks like a BABY boy, not a 16 year old. If that means that some people think he's a girl, then oh well.

Yesterday we had Reid's 6 month checkup! Here are his 6 month and 6 days stats...

Height: 28 inches, 94%

Weight: 18 pounds 13 ounces, 73%

So very thankful...

The last few days have been busy, but so much fun! Wednesday was Reid's 6 month birthday and we celebrated by going to lunch at Black Walnut Cafe (Reid's choice) since Daddy was off work! It was a gorgeous day so we decided to sit outside and let Reid try sitting in a high chair for the very first time! My baby boy sure is growing up!
On Thursday morning I ran my very first 5K! Alli and I did it together. We had a tiny little fan cheering us on! :)
We went to lunch on Thanksgiving with Chris' parents and then Chris and I went to the A&M game on Thursday night. The game definitely didn't end how we had hoped, but we had a great time together! I missed Reid SO much, but he was having a blast!
We celebrated Thanksgiving with my family on Friday. We have SO much to be thankful for!

6 months!

My baby boy is SIX MONTHS OLD! This half of a year has been full of learning, fun, challenges, laughter, thankfulness, memory making, humbling situations, and SO much more! I feel like just in the last couple of weeks Reid has grown and changed so much! I love trying to figure out what his personality will be like as he gets older. Right now I am thinking he will be the "strong, silent, man of few words" type. :) He doesn't "say" much and is quite the observer and thinker, but when he does talk or squeal, it's the most adorable sound in the world to me! There is truly nobody else I'd rather spend my days with than my precious boy and I thank God every day that I get to be his mommy! It's the BEST job in the world!!!

We go to the doctor next week and I'm excited to get Reid's official stats! Most of his clothes are in the 9-12 month range and he is wearing size 3 diapers now. He eats every 3 1/2 to 4 hours (5 times during the day) and has solids at dinner time. So far he has had sweet potatoes, squash, avocado, pears, and green beans. His favorite is definitely sweet potatoes. He loves them! I am probably going to start giving him solids at lunch time soon.

Reid is still not the best sleeper. Bedtime is between 7:30 and 8:30 pm and he usually wakes up for the day anywhere between 7:00 and 8:30 am. On most days he takes 3 short naps and every once in a while will take a long one. He is still waking up 3 times at night. He is so happy during the day, so I don't think the waking up at night is affecting his disposition and he seems really well rested in the morning. As long as it's not bothering him, it doesn't bother me. I figure I can sleep once all our kids are in college! :) I know that he will only be this little for a short time, so I am choosing to enjoy our time together in the middle of the night.

During awake time Reid loves to cuddle with Mommy, play in the jumperoo, read books, go on walks, and swing at the park. He also likes the car now and seems to enjoy running errands! Sophie is by far his favorite toy. She has become like a member of the family or another pet. She is with us at all times. :) Last weekend Reid started to sit on his own! This is going to open up a whole new world to him and I think it will be so much fun! He's also starting to pick up toys when he drops them. He reaches for Daddy and I now, which is probably my favorite new development!! He LOVES the dogs and thinks they are hilarious. He still loves bath time and so do we!

Look who's sitting!

Look who's sitting! Reid started sitting all by himself on Saturday and has gotten sturdier every day! He's so proud and so am I! :)

just another week in paradise!

We've had a really low key week around here...

Reid tried avacado and was not a fan! I guess he won't be enjoying mexican food with us anytime soon. :)

We've gone to the park to swing almost every day! He loves it!

Reid has starting sitting in the stroller (without his carseat) for our walks! He kicks his legs the whole time, so I know he must like it!

This little crab bathtime toy is his new favorite (other than Sophie).

I can't believe that next week we will have a SIX month old!

Observations

On Friday I took Reid up to Chris' office to meet all of his coworkers. It was so much fun! I loved being able to see where Chris works and put faces to names! He works with lots of really great people. I get SO stressed out driving downtown. I don't know how people do that everyday.

I've made a few observations lately...

*It is really hard to feed a baby baby food without making a HUGE mess. I think this is because his hands are constantly in his mouth. As soon as I give him a bite, his hand goes in his mouth and then all over his face, arms, feet, and the bumbo. When we are cleaning him up we find food in really interesting places! Tonight there were sweet potatoes in his nose and in his precious little neck rolls. :) Right now we are still only giving him baby food at dinner, so we just have him wear his diaper and then do his bath shortly after. I am not sure how this will work once he starts eating baby food two and three times a day! I guess he will be in and out of clothes a lot. He is actually really loving the baby food, which is great. So far he's only had sweet potatoes and squash.

*I think holding Reid at this age is so fun. He's big enough that I don't feel like I am going to break him, but small enough to still really snuggle. I love it.

*I find it very tempting to still wear my maternity jeans. I actually do every now and then if I am backed up on laundry. :) I should probably pack them away somewhere so they aren't so easily accessible.

*I think I am "nesting" more now then I did before Reid was born. I am going through a major phase of giving things away and cleaning out closets and drawers.

*At least once a day I still stop and think "I really can't believe that we have a baby." It's true what people say... In some ways I feel like he has been a part of our family forever, but in some ways it feels like we were just at the hospital having him. He is just the greatest joy of our lives!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! :)

We had such a fun day! Reid and I went to the Celebrations Christmas Market at Second Baptist this morning with a friend. I put him in the Baby Bjorn and he really liked looking around! It's so crowded in there that it's just easier to not have a stroller. I have decided that I am ready to spruce up my Christmas decorations this year! I want to add a little whimsical touch. Reid had enough after about an hour and a half, so I wasn't able to finish shopping. We might make a quick trip back there tomorrow morning. :) I spent a lot of time today daydreaming about Christmas decorations. I also listened to some Amy Grant Christmas music in the car. I just couldn't help it.

It was such a GORGEOUS day today that we decided to go to our little neighborhood park...TWICE! I put Reid in the swing and we had the best time. He's still kind of small, so I ended up stuffing a towel behind him. Once he got going, he was laughing and squealing...music to my ears! I can't get enough of his little gummy smile! He also got to wear his adorable sweater today, which made me happy!I am really making an effort lately to notice and be thankful for everyday things...things that are easily taken for granted. Today I was thinking how grateful I am for my dishwasher. I know that's random, but it would take a lot of extra time to wash everything by hand.

I will end with a few tidbits about Reid...

-He has been fascinated with his hands and fingers. He will just move them around and stare at them.

-He's starting to reach for things and people a lot more.

-He has discovered his tongue and has started chewing on it and sticking it out at us!

-He is obsessed with his "It's a boy" sign. This sign was on our front door when Reid came home from the hospital and now hangs on his nursery door. Every time we walk out of his room, we now stop to look at the sign. He gets a huge grin on his face and starts giggling! It's the funniest thing!

I just love being this BOY's mommy!
