Galveston getaway!

Last week we went on a last minute getaway to Galveston with our dear friends, the Browns!  We had another very special trip planned with them this month that got cancelled and rescheduled for next summer, so we were thankful to still get to go away with them for a few days.  We went during the week, so Chris had to set up a little office from the beach house and work during the day, but it was such a nice change of scenery.  We had the best time!!

We love these people so much!

Celebrating Reid's 9th Birthday!

Reid said that his 9th birthday was his "best birthday ever"!  We weren't sure what it would look like this year, but things started easing up right in time.

Chris and I got him a basketball goal for his birthday.  He wasn't expecting it at all and was so excited!  I know this will get a lot of use over the years.

Grandma and Grandpa came by in the morning with special donuts and gifts for the birthday boy!

He dove right into his new legos!

We celebrated with the Preston crew with a birthday lunch at our house!

We told Reid he could invite his four best buddies over the swim for his birthday.  This was the first time he had played with his friends in about two and a half months, so it was extra special!  The boys swam a ton, had Raising Canes for dinner (Reid's choice), had a water balloon fight, and had cookie cake for dessert.

It was an awesome birthday for our big 9 year old!  It made me so happy to see him so happy!

Reid is 9!

Reid is 9 years old!  Here are a few things about our biggest boy at 9!

*He still loves his usual things (sports, legos, and board games), but he has a new-found love of reading!  Over the last couple of months, he's begged to stay up later and later every night to read.

*He paces when he is excited about something.

*While sadly his appetite has not grown in variety, it has certainly grown in quantity!  He can EAT!  I guess it's just the beginning...

*He is pretty creative and good at finding things to do.  He rarely says the phrase, "I'm bored".

*He is way too impressed with bodily functions lately, which I guess is typically for a 9 year old boy. We are working on our manners over here!

*He is usually very confident (sometimes a little too confident) ;), but can quickly switch to a majorly gloom and doom attitude if he can't do something perfectly.

*He is terrified of all tiny creatures (like his momma), but isn't scared of larger animals at all.  He loves dogs and is really sweet and affectionate with them.

*On a similar note, he LOVES stuffed animals and gets very attached to all of them.  They all have names and he knows exactly where and when he got each one.  I love this about him because it still makes him seem little to me. :)

I took the picture above and then later found all of these selfies on my phone.  I feel like they capture the essence of a nine year old boy perfectly...

HAPPY 9TH BIRTHDAY, REID PRESTON SCIBA!!! We love you so much!

2019-2020 school year wrap up

I think we can all agree that this was the weirdest end to a school year ever.  I'm SO thankful that the kids were each able to see their teachers and have a little closure.

Here is Rhett's end of school year picture!

Ms. Amanda and Ms. Staci stopped by to visit and drop off a few goodies for Rhett.  He had the BEST year with these two wonderful ladies and I am really sad that it got cut short.  They were so SWEET and patient.

Georgia Kate and Reid got to have car parades to see their teachers!  So fun!

GK was extra excited to get to see two of her favorite friends, Aubrey and Harper, before the parade started.

Mrs. Gonzales is an incredible teacher.  We were lucky that Reid and Georgia got to have her as their 1st grade teacher!

Time to see Reid's teachers!

We love Ms. McCord and Ms. Hoppe!! Reid had such a great year with them!  I credit Ms. Hoppe for Reid's love of reading this year.

Last day of 2nd grade!

Last day of 1st grade!

These two loved being at the same school together this year!

We did it and I'm really proud of us!  Now it's time for what feels like Summer part 2! ;)

Rhett can ride a bike!

Rhett wanted to take his training wheels off during quarantine and never looked back!  Family bike rides just got a lot more fun!

Go, Rhett, Go!
