Haircut

Reid got his first haircut (more like a trim) yesterday!  If it was completely up to me, he wouldn't have gotten a haircut quite yet, but Daddy has been after us to do it! :) I definitely didn't want to take him to a salon because I knew they would cut way more than I wanted them to.  I WANTED THOSE CURLS TO STAY!  So, Mumsie did it for us!  Hair is kind of her thing. :) My mom used to always trim our friends' bangs when they came over to spend the night if their bangs were too long!  You can always find her with a brush in her hand!  Reid's hair is always brushed when he's at Mumsie's house!

picture advice!

I would love to hear from anyone who reads this blog (all 3 of you) about how you handle your photos!  Since having Reid we have taken a billion pictures and they are all just sitting on our computer.  Digital cameras are so nice, but it also gives us the ability to take way more pictures than we probably would if we were spending money on film.  It can get very overwhelming!  I want to have some actual albums in our house instead of just having all of the pictures on the computer.  I want Reid (and our other future kids) to have easy access to pictures when they are grown up.  Digital albums kind of stress me out because I am not very techy, but printing tons of pictures can get pricey.  I kind of like the old fashioned way of printing actual pictures though.  It's also really hard trying to decide which ones to put in an album/print.  I just want to get a good handle on this now while it's still semi-manageable! :) I am welcoming advice and tips!

Weekend Tidbits - The One with the Lizard

On Friday afternoon Reid and I went swimming with our sweet friends Sharon and Tiffany!  Reid loves Tiffany!

 Chris was out of town last night, so Alli came to spend the night with us!  Alli, Reid, and I went to meet John for a yummy dinner at Lupe and then came back to the house.  This is where the lizard comes in.  So on Thursday afternoon I innocently opened my back door to retrieve something Reid had thrown out the doggie door.  As I opened the door, a huge (it was actually probably only 2 inches) gecko ran into the house!  I am TERRIFIED of lizards.  TERRIFIED.  I tried to trap it with a bowl, but I couldn't get it and eventually lost track of it.  I was having a mild panic attack and then realized that I am a mom now and needed to be mature.  I just kept telling myself that it probably went back outside and may or may not have avoided the kitchen as much as I could for the rest of the day.  Well, yesterday I was on the ground trying to get one of the rechargeable batteries from Reid's monitor that had rolled under the refrigerator and SAW THE LIZARD.  Again, panic attack.  So when we got back from Lupe last night I told Alli that we had to capture the lizard or I probably wouldn't be able to sleep.  We pulled the refrigerator completely out from the wall and gathered our lizard catching supplies...the swiffer mop, a flashlight, and a bowl.  Alli did all of the dirty work while I stood on the counter screaming and Reid entertained himself opening and closing the DVD player.  She eventually caught it under a bowl, but then we couldn't figure out how to get it back outside.  Enter my dad. :) My parents were so sweet to make an extra stop while out running errands to help us complete our mission.  There you have it...a story that is entirely too long about my irrational fear of lizards.  

 This morning I helped host a baby shower for my sweet friend Emily!  I am so sad that I didn't take any pictures, but we had a wonderful time celebrating her and baby Brody! :) Chris got back this afternoon and we picked up Pei Wei for dinner. Yum!  I am looking forward to watching swimming and gymnastics the rest of the weekend!!  Go USA!

weekend highlights

We've had a really fun weekend!  To start things off, Reid ate dog food on Friday!  Like a whole handful.  Fun times.  I should have known this day was coming, but it kind of freaked me out!  I turned my back for 30 seconds and Reid decided to just help himself and Annabelle was happily sharing.

Yesterday we celebrated our precious friend Clara's first birthday!! Her party was a shabby chic theme and Ashlee did a wonderful job!  The party was beautiful!

 Last night we went to a wedding!  The wedding phase of life is mostly over for us now, so it's always fun (at least for me :) when we get to go to one!  My teaching partner from my last year of teaching got married and the wedding and bride were absolutely beautiful!  

 Today is our 6 year wedding anniversary!  Since my parents watched Reid last night while we were at the wedding, we decided to have a low key anniversary today.  The three of us went to a new place in Sugar Land called Jus Mac for lunch.  It was pretty good!

 Reid got called a girl at the restaurant.  He was wearing this.  It is becoming almost humorous how frequently he gets called a girl.  It really doesn't bother me, I just think it's so weird!  It probably happens 5-6 times a week and that is not an exaggeration.  

This evening Chris and I are going on an anniversary date to HEB while Grandma has a little visit with Reid!

swimming and painting!

Reid and his best friend Clara have been taking weekly swim lessons together!  Reid is the screamer of our class.  He screams from start to finish!  The funny thing is that he loves being in the water at Mumsie and Popsie's house.  Their teacher is SO SWEET and gives the babies kisses at the end of class.  I'm not sure why he hates it so much.  I think it's good for him to learn water safety since he is around water a lot.

Since it's been rainy here, I decided to bring out the watercolors!  This was our first time painting.  Reid actually did pretty well.  He mostly got the hang of the "dip in water, dip in paint, and put brush to paper" system.  We ended up with a lot of paint on the tile and on his legs, but it was fun!  

When we were finished, I did what any proud mommy would do!  I hung his masterpiece on the fridge! :) 

Silliness!

Just a couple of cute (well, cute to me) things I want to remember...

When we ask Reid, "Where's the ____?", he always hides whatever it is behind his back.  He loves doing this!  Today I had a few animal puzzle pieces out and asked, "Where's the giraffe?" because I wanted him to show me which of the pieces was the giraffe.  He picked the correct one up and then hid it.  I guess I should start saying, "Show me the ___" when I want him to identify an animal and ask "Where is the ___?" when I want him to hide it.  Kids are so literal! ;) 

Reid's other newly discovered activity is throwing things out the doggie door.  Fun times! :)  A couple of mornings ago I was looking for the remote and couldn't find it.  We found it that evening when we went outside! :) He threw Grandpa's cell phone out there yesterday.  Today he was caught red handed throwing his yogurt bites outside!  Silly boy!
