school

Reid and I purposely timed our walk this morning so that we would be going by the school (the school where I used to teach) just in time to see the kids arriving.  There is something about the first day.  I love seeing the kids and parents walking in hand in hand with their cute new clothes on.  I love seeing the teachers greeting the kids in the carpool line.  I love school supplies.  I love the excitement that the first day brings for the children and teachers.  I just love it all.  As we were walking by this morning I couldn't help but get a little emotional, not about not being at school, but because I was thinking about the whole first day of school thing a little differently than I used to.  I looked down at those little feet sticking out of the stroller and realized that it will be just four short years before I am walking my baby into kindergarten for the first time (maybe at the very school where I taught for 6 years, the very school where Reid and I spent 9 months together when I was pregnant :), the very school I was pushing my stroller in front of).  I watched the parents pulling out of the carpool line and walking away from the building and was emotional for them!  I realized today that my very first class is starting 10th grade this year!  Time flies.  When we got home, Reid was playing in the living room and I was folding clothes on the floor, and Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World came on Pandora.  Then I did what any normal, rational person would do.  I started thinking about Reid getting married someday and starting sobbing!  It's crazy what those first day of school emotions can do! ;) On a totally different note... this is what Reid does with his pacifiers now.  Hmmm...

15 month update and the children's museum!

Reid is now 15 months old!  That's 1 and 1/4 years! :) 

Chris was off yesterday and today, so we decided to take Reid to the children's museum!  I remember going to the children's museum when I was a little girl, so I was really excited to take Reid!  It was really crowded, but so fun!! We will definitely go back!  

Some things about Reid at 15 months...

*He has been completely bottle free since about 13 months.  He was really only having one at night anyway and the rest of the day he was using cups.  I figured it would be pretty easy to get rid of it and it was!  We just kept the rest of his bedtime routine the same and he didn't even seem to notice the bottle was gone.  

*Pacifiers are a completely different story. :) Reid LOVES pacifiers.  He almost always has one in his mouth and is usually carrying one in his hand also.  I'm in no hurry to get rid of them.  My goal is to not send him to kindergarten with one! ;)

*He is a wonderful sleeper!  As of this week he is a one nap kid!  He takes about a two hour nap starting at 12 or 12:30.  He goes to be around 8 and wakes up around 8, give or take 30 minutes.

*He loves eating and isn't very picky.  He will eat most things.  Very thankful for that!  The main things he will not eat no matter how many times we try are green beans and watermelon.  I love green beans and watermelon so I don't get it! :)

*He hasn't said any words other than mama and dada, but he has definitely been "talking" so much more in the last couple of weeks.  He just talks and talks all day long in his own little language.  He is consistently using the "more" sign and usually does the "all done" sign.  He usually just claps twice for "more" or when he wants something, but we know what he means.  He has started doing this one syllable squeak all the time.  When he is playing with something and can't figure it out or when he wants something, he will just squeak like a little mouse!

*He has started running!  He loves for Annabelle to chase him.  He knows that if he picks up her rabbit and duck toy that she will start to chase him.  He runs and runs and laughs and laughs!  He sometimes runs and hides behind me when she's chasing him!

*He loves being tickled!

*He is obsessed with hiding things.  He has started hiding something and then holding his hands up like he's saying, "Where is it?"

*He often just walks around the house and holds one hand up to the sky and looks up.  It's so interesting!  I wonder what he's thinking about!
*He is having some separation anxiety.  Luckily he is completely fine going with his grandparents! :)
*He is still loving animals!  He loves to point at them in books and wants me to say what they are.  He loves carrying his animal puzzle pieces around.  I need to get this poor baby some real animal toys instead of just puzzles!

My precious baby is changing into a toddler right before my eyes!  I hope I never forget the way he looks when he smiles with his pacifier in (and that dimple!), the way he toddles around with his hands out to the side, the way his cheeks jiggle as he's walking, his sweet "voice" before he starts using words, the way his baby feet look when he crosses them in his high chair or his car seat, the way he loves to make me laugh by grabbing my face when I'm rocking him at night and his little shoulders!  So random, but I am obsessed with squeezing his shoulders! :) I remember seeing Nicole Kidman on Oprah in my doctor's waiting room when I was pregnant.  She was talking about how she was obsessed with her daughter's shoulders and I thought it was such a weird thing to be obsessed with!  I totally get it now!  I'm obsessed with his shoulders! :)

A Day in the Life - 14 months

This will be really boring for anyone other than myself, but I think it will be fun years from now to be able to look back and see what our days looked like! :) Friday was a pretty typical day for us so I decided to go back and document it.

Reid woke up for the day at 8:30.  I know that I am spoiled to have a child that sleeps late.  We keep him up until 8:30 or 9 so that he will sleep a little later in the mornings.  He doesn't sleep until 8:30 every day, but it does happen every now and then.  He almost always sleeps until at least 7:30.  If we don't have anything scheduled for first thing in the morning, I usually let him be my alarm clock.  I sometimes feel guilty about not waking up before him and being productive, but then I remind myself that once we have another baby someday, I will not get to do this.  I am going to enjoy the perks of only having one child right now. :)

I get so excited to go in his room and see him every morning!

Reid had his usual drinkable YoBaby yogurt and a veggie muffin for breakfast.  I normally unload the dishwasher while he's eating breakfast, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that Chris did it for me before leaving for work!  Sweet. :) After breakfast, I got Reid changed and dressed and then he played for a few minutes while I got dressed for Baby Bootcamp.

We went to Baby Bootcamp from 9:30-10:30!  Reid does pretty well at bootcamp, but he definitely doesn't like staying in the stroller anymore.  We meet indoors in the summer because of the heat, so the strollers end up staying parked most of the time.  He's not happy unless it's moving!  He would rather run around and eat snacks while I exercise!  

Reid went down for a nap at 10:45 when we got home.  Most days he still takes 2 naps.  Sometimes he will just take one.  While Reid napped I took a shower, folded a load of laundry, and watched TV/read blogs. :)

Reid woke up from his nap at 12:00 and had lunch.  I made him his usual...cheese and lunch meat melted on a piece of bread, but this time I snuck in some spinach.  He didn't want anything to do with it and only ate mandarin oranges and a banana/squash pouch.  Oh well.

We played for a little while after lunch and then headed out to run a few errands.  We made a stop at PetSmart so Reid could look at the animals.  We looked at fish, guinnea pigs, birds, and the dogs getting groomed.  We avoided the reptile section obviously. :)

We got home from running errands at about 2:45.  We played some more and then Reid had a snack.

Reid went down for a nap around 3:30.  When I say, "It's time for your nap!" he will just start walking to his room.  So precious.  While he took his nap I worked on his baby book.  I have been working on getting caught up for the last couple of weeks.

He woke up at 4:45 and we gathered things up and headed over to our friends Zack and Katy's house.  Our friends Emily and Greg were there too and we were excited to get to spend time with them before baby Brody arrives! :) 

They have a great play area in their backyard!  Perfect for boys!

We got home at about 8:40 and did Reid's bath, brush teeth, and book routine. 

 Reid was asleep by 9:00.  Life is good! :) 

Attitude

It looks like a new attitude came with the new haircut.  This is his new face.  These pictures don't really capture the full effect...

Reid hasn't been feeling 100% the last couple of days.  He threw all of his dinner on the floor tonight (this has been happening off and on for a while now actually).  Even on his grumpy days, I love him to pieces! :)
