Memorial Day Weekend

We had a a great, relaxing, long Memorial Day weekend!  I am SO thankful for all those who have served or are currently serving our country so that we can enjoy our freedom and wonderful weekends like these!  We did a lot of hanging around the house, getting a few things done, playing outside, breaking in the new grill, and swimming!  Alli, Mom, and I went wedding dress shopping and Alli found her perfect dress!  Everything seriously looked amazing on her, so it was a tough decision.  Unfortunately I can't post pictures of the winner, but trust me, she looks gorgeous in it! :) Here are some pictures of the rest of our weekend!

I can't get enough of this boy in his smocked swim trunks!

These are from tonight, but I just thought they were adorable.  Reid can now kind of understand the concept of talking to someone on the phone.  This is him talking to Daddy today.  He was actually having a conversation with him and it was SO cute to watch!! :)

Celebrating Reid's Second Birthday!

We decided to keep things simple this year and have a fun, family day to celebrate Reid's birthday!  We had the BEST day!  It was stress free and we were able to just focus on Reid and have fun with him!  Chris took the day off (and today too, woohoo!) and we started our day by taking Reid to a place where he could enjoy his two favorite things (animals and trains)...the zoo!   I wasn't sure he would understand that it was his birthday, but as the day went on, I'm pretty sure he did!  He wanted me to sing happy birthday to him the ENTIRE way to the zoo.  I happily obliged! :) He got to see all of his favorites at the zoo (elephants, giraffes, and a newly discovered love, the seals), ride the carousel, feed giraffes, and ride the train!  When we got home, we were all worn out!  Reid took a good nap and then woke up ready to play!  We let him open his presents from us and then Mumsie and Poppies came over to give Reid his birthday gift, a train table!  It's safe to say that he was in LOVE from the second he saw it.  It was so, so sweet to watch his face when he came down and saw it.  A shy little grin immediately came to his face and then he looked around at us before running over and looking at it!  He was so excited!!  Then, we all went and met up with Grandma, Grandpa, Auntie Alli, and Uncle Thomas at Rainforest Cafe for dinner.  I wasn't sure if Reid would like it or be scared of it, but he had the best time.  He got to eat chips and queso, look at animals, and be with all of his favorite people.  After dinner we all came back to the house where Reid got to open presents from the rest of the family and then we had cookie cake and ice cream.  Just like last year, I got teary while we were all singing to him.  I just loved watching his face as he was looking around at all of his favorite people singing to him.  It was a wonderful day celebrating our wonderful boy with our families.  In times like these I just feel SO blessed.  I am so thankful that we all get to be together and that Reid is so loved.  It's safe to say he's slightly spoiled too.  Must be tough being the only grandchild. ;) When everyone left for the night he passed out hugs and said "Thank you!" (take-ooh).  Melted my heart.  Here are some pictures from Reid's special day!

Mommy, Daddy, Oie, and Abeeel woke Reid up by singing him "Happy Birthday!".  He wasn't that impressed at first. ;)

TWO

Our precious Reid Preston is TWO today!!!  I want to bottle up and memorize everything about him right now.

Reid, we absolutely adore you!  We thank God every day for giving us YOU!  Thank you for making Daddy and I parents two years ago and for all of the fun, smiles, and laughter in between!  We love watching you grow and are so proud of who you are!!!

We had a little photo shoot yesterday at the historical MKT train in Katy!  Birthday outfit courtesy of Mumsie, of course! :)

Here are a few of my favorites that I feel like capture his personality...

And for my memory keeping purposes, all about Reid at age TWO!

Some of Reid's favorite things are ANIMALS (amuls), specifically horses (he has quite a convincing horse noise), trains (choo choos), trucks and buses (really all things with wheels),  playing with bubbles and chalk outside, the color orange (onch) much to Daddy's dismay, letters (pointing them out everywhere he sees them), and counting (he loves lining up his animals and counting them with me).

His favorite thing to eat is chips, without question.  He wants them all the time, for every meal.  His favorite treat is Nilla Wafers at Mumsie and Poppies' house.

We are finally to a point when he will let us actually read him books sometimes.  He usually only wants Daddy to read to him (talk about bursting his teacher mommy's bubble).  At night they always read Goodnight Moon (mush book) and sometimes Runaway Bunny.  His favorite songs to sing before bed are Bingo (he calls it Dumbo) and Jesus Loves Me.

Reid's talking has taken off in the last month!  Wow!  It has been FUN, FUN, FUN!  The talking is definitely my favorite thing about this age!  Around 22 months he started putting two words together (open this, books away, more ducks, etc.).  Between 23 months and now we've seen major progress!  His first sentence was "Daddy at work".  When I went to get him one morning, that was the first thing that he said to me!  Now he pretty much narrates our life all day long!  It's so fun to hear what he says!  Overall he is pretty shy around most people besides family and prefers to watch and observe instead of talk.  He has a few little talking quirks that I love...He calls all small things "baby"(baby truck, baby boat, etc.).  If he has more than one of something (even if he's hoarding 10 things in his arms), he always refers to them as "both" (bof).  He says "water" like an old, British lady (wat-ow).  We crack up every time.  I sort of wish I could just video him all day long, but that might be weird. :)

Now that he's adjusted to his big boy bed, Reid is still a pretty good sleeper!  Bedtime is usually around 8:30 and he usually wakes up around 7:30.  He takes about an hour to an hour and a half nap most days.  He never fights going down for his nap.  He still likes someone to sit next time him until he falls asleep.  When I tell him it's time to go to sleep, he says in the most precious voice, "Mommeeee?" to be sure I'm going to sit in the chair.  He has to have his 3 P's to sleep...puppy, (little) pillow, and paci.  I've noticed that he likes to take his time waking up (like his mommy).  He's not one of those morning people that just pops out of bed!  He likes to lay in his bed and hang out quietly for a few minutes first.  I've loved being able to get in bed and lay with him when he wakes up.  It's a special time that we get to  talk. :)

Little Gym has been a highlight this year!  We look forward to it every week!  He also seems to enjoy church (chooch) now, which I am so thankful for!  He gets excited when we tell him where we are going and says "dance, jup, amuls"!  It's been really interesting to watch him in social situations.  I feel like I've learned so much about him!  He is cautious and likes to watch other kids try things before he thinks about trying it.  I see him giggle a lot when he's watching his friends.  He's definitely a people watcher. He doesn't get upset very easily during confrontations with other kids and kind of just lets things roll off his back and moves on.  With Mommy, this is not always the case. ;)

He is a great helper and loves doing everything from unloading the dishwasher to putting laundry in the washing machine to vacuuming.  He will usually clean up his toys easily as well.  He is becoming more independent and likes to say, "REID (weee). DO. IT!"  Every now and then he will still say in the sweetest voice, "Mommy help (ep)?"  He is pretty much over anything that's not the big boy way of doing things.  He doesn't want to sit in high chairs or booster seats (at home or at restaurants), use baby cups (although he still will, but LOVES mommy and daddy's cups), etc.  While he demonstrates typical two year old behavior sometimes, he really is SO good and sweet.

Reid absolutely adores his Daddy, grandparents, and Chloie and Annabelle (Oie, Abeeeel), but he's definitely a mama's boy! ;) When Chris does something funny, Reid giggles in the most precious way and says, "Dadeeeee".  I just love it.  He does this for the dogs too.

I am so excited about what the future holds for us in the next year!  This is the year that Reid will become a big brother and I'm so excited to see him in that role!  I think he's going to be the BEST and SWEETEST big brother!  I know his baby brother or sister is going to love him.

Happy 2nd Birthday Reid!!! We are so excited to celebrate you today!
We love you to the moon and back!

30 weeks!

I am 30 weeks pregnant with our sweet #2 today!  Wow - it sure is going by quickly!! I am getting SO, SO excited to meet our baby and find out who it is in there!!  I am just beyond grateful that we've been given another baby.  I still think Reid is pretty clueless to the whole thing, but we like to ask him a lot whether he thinks he's having a baby brother or baby sister.  Usually he says whatever choice we say second, but the last few times he's said brother (brudder) no matter how we ask him!  Maybe he knows something we don't! ;)

The baby did give me a little scare last week, but thankfully all is well!  I didn't feel him/her move at all for about a day and a half (even after drinking a huge, cold glass of orange juice like my doctor recommended), so I started to get myself really worked up about it.  I ended up going in just to be sure everything was okay, and thankfully it was!  I guess the baby was just taking a little vacation. :)

Other than that, I don't have much to report, which I guess is a good thing!  I am feeling pretty good, but definitely more tired this time around.  With Reid I never really felt uncomfortable and I already am this time!  It is WELL worth it though! :)  Part of that may have to do with the fact that summer has definitely arrived in Houston!  It's getting HOT and I know it's just the beginning!  I feel like I can't do a post without any pictures, so here's our boy enjoying the first of many popsicles this season! :)

Mother's Day Weekend

On the Saturday before Mother's Day we went to College Station with my family to go watch the A&M vs. LSU baseball game!  Alli's fiance' John (fun to say that!) went to LSU, so it was a fun game for us all to go to together!  We took Chris' mom to brunch on Sunday and spent the rest of the day hanging out just the three of us.  It was a great weekend!  I didn't get any pictures with my mom/Reid's Mumsie or Chris' mom/Reid's Grandma this weekend! Ugh! :(

 Learning about baseball from Poppies...

This is the only picture I got with my baby on Mother's Day!  I'm looking a little rough, but he looks precious! :)
I'm so thankful for such a wonderful mom and mother-in-law and for getting to be Reid's (and Baby #2's) mommy!!!

*On an unrelated note, I THINK we've turned a corner with the big boy bed!  The last two nights he has slept through the night and he took a much better nap yesterday and today!  The 20 minute nap wasn't cutting it for this momma! :)
