Our precious Reid Preston is TWO today!!! I want to bottle up and memorize everything about him right now.
Reid, we absolutely adore you! We thank God every day for giving us YOU! Thank you for making Daddy and I parents two years ago and for all of the fun, smiles, and laughter in between! We love watching you grow and are so proud of who you are!!!
We had a little photo shoot yesterday at the historical MKT train in Katy! Birthday outfit courtesy of Mumsie, of course! :)
Here are a few of my favorites that I feel like capture his personality...
And for my memory keeping purposes, all about Reid at age TWO!
Some of Reid's favorite things are ANIMALS (
amuls), specifically horses (he has quite a convincing horse noise), trains (
choo choos), trucks and buses (really all things with wheels), playing with bubbles and chalk outside, the color orange (
onch) much to Daddy's dismay, letters (pointing them out everywhere he sees them), and counting (he loves lining up his animals and counting them with me).
His favorite thing to eat is chips, without question. He wants them all the time, for every meal. His favorite treat is Nilla Wafers at Mumsie and Poppies' house.
We are finally to a point when he will let us actually read him books sometimes. He usually only wants Daddy to read to him (talk about bursting his teacher mommy's bubble). At night they always read Goodnight Moon (mush book) and sometimes Runaway Bunny. His favorite songs to sing before bed are Bingo (he calls it Dumbo) and Jesus Loves Me.
Reid's talking has taken off in the last month! Wow! It has been FUN, FUN, FUN! The talking is definitely my favorite thing about this age! Around 22 months he started putting two words together (open this, books away, more ducks, etc.). Between 23 months and now we've seen major progress! His first sentence was "Daddy at work". When I went to get him one morning, that was the first thing that he said to me! Now he pretty much narrates our life all day long! It's so fun to hear what he says! Overall he is pretty shy around most people besides family and prefers to watch and observe instead of talk. He has a few little talking quirks that I love...He calls all small things "baby"(baby truck, baby boat, etc.). If he has more than one of something (even if he's hoarding 10 things in his arms), he always refers to them as "both" (bof). He says "water" like an old, British lady (wat-ow). We crack up every time. I sort of wish I could just video him all day long, but that might be weird. :)
Now that he's adjusted to his big boy bed, Reid is still a pretty good sleeper! Bedtime is usually around 8:30 and he usually wakes up around 7:30. He takes about an hour to an hour and a half nap most days. He never fights going down for his nap. He still likes someone to sit next time him until he falls asleep. When I tell him it's time to go to sleep, he says in the most precious voice, "Mommeeee?" to be sure I'm going to sit in the chair. He has to have his 3 P's to sleep...puppy, (little) pillow, and paci. I've noticed that he likes to take his time waking up (like his mommy). He's not one of those morning people that just pops out of bed! He likes to lay in his bed and hang out quietly for a few minutes first. I've loved being able to get in bed and lay with him when he wakes up. It's a special time that we get to talk. :)
Little Gym has been a highlight this year! We look forward to it every week! He also seems to enjoy church (chooch) now, which I am so thankful for! He gets excited when we tell him where we are going and says "dance, jup, amuls"! It's been really interesting to watch him in social situations. I feel like I've learned so much about him! He is cautious and likes to watch other kids try things before he thinks about trying it. I see him giggle a lot when he's watching his friends. He's definitely a people watcher. He doesn't get upset very easily during confrontations with other kids and kind of just lets things roll off his back and moves on. With Mommy, this is not always the case. ;)
He is a great helper and loves doing everything from unloading the dishwasher to putting laundry in the washing machine to vacuuming. He will usually clean up his toys easily as well. He is becoming more independent and likes to say, "REID (
weee). DO
. IT!" Every now and then he will still say in the sweetest voice, "Mommy help (
ep)?" He is pretty much over anything that's not the big boy way of doing things. He doesn't want to sit in high chairs or booster seats (at home or at restaurants), use baby cups (although he still will, but LOVES mommy and daddy's cups), etc. While he demonstrates typical two year old behavior sometimes, he really is SO good and sweet.
Reid absolutely adores his Daddy, grandparents, and Chloie and Annabelle (
Oie, Abeeeel), but he's definitely a mama's boy! ;) When Chris does something funny, Reid giggles in the most precious way and says, "Dadeeeee". I just love it. He does this for the dogs too.
I am so excited about what the future holds for us in the next year! This is the year that Reid will become a big brother and I'm so excited to see him in that role! I think he's going to be the BEST and SWEETEST big brother! I know his baby brother or sister is going to love him.
Happy 2nd Birthday Reid!!! We are so excited to celebrate you today!
We love you to the moon and back!
